Cybersecurity guide

Why Physical Security Is Part of Cybersecurity

A stolen badge, unlocked closet, or exposed camera can create the same kind of access problem as a compromised password. Strong security connects the physical and digital layers.

Cybersecurity does not stop at the login screen. A stolen badge, unlocked network closet, or exposed camera controller can give an intruder a path to the same systems protected by passwords and firewalls.

The physical attack surface

Server rooms, wiring closets, laptops, printers, access controllers, and cameras all hold information or provide a route into the environment. If they are easy to reach, digital controls may be bypassed entirely.

Connect the controls

Physical security and cybersecurity work best together: access permissions should match identity roles, devices should be patched and monitored, and camera footage should support investigations when an account or facility is compromised.

Make it part of the routine

Review badge access, visitor processes, equipment locations, privacy zones, and incident contacts alongside MFA, endpoint security, and backups. The goal is one risk picture, not separate checklists owned by disconnected teams.
